Parabolic Screen filter

Parabolic Screen filter

What is a parabolic screen?

A parabolic screen is a static, low-maintenance filter used to separate solids from liquids – all without the need for moving parts. At the heart of the design is a curved screen surface made up of wedge wires, positioned at an angle of about 60 degrees. As water flows over the screen, solids like fibers, granules or organic matter get caught on the surface and slide down by gravity into a collection tray. The liquid continues on, passing through the narrow slots between the wires.

This type of screen was originally used for dry material separation in the mining industry, but over time, its simplicity and reliability made it a go-to solution for water and process filtration across a wide range of sectors.

For heavier or stickier material, additional features can be added – such as a vibrating motor, spray nozzles, or a brush to help keep the screen clear. The entire unit is made from stainless steel (typically SS304), offering excellent durability and long-term performance.

Applications of the parabolic screen

Parabolic screens are used wherever there’s a need to separate solids from water in a simple, effective way. You’ll often find them in:

  • Greenhouse and horticulture installations
  • Washing systems, such as crate washers
  • Industrial water and wastewater treatment systems

They’re particularly well suited for systems with high levels of contamination. Thanks to their open, gravity-based design, they don’t clog easily and require very little upkeep. And because there are no pumps or active controls involved, the operation is as straightforward as it gets.

Why choose a parabolic screen?

The strength of the parabolic screen lies in its simplicity. No motors, no complex electronics – just gravity and smart design. That means minimal wear, less chance of malfunction, and a system that just keeps going with little to no intervention.

It’s also a cost-efficient option, both in terms of initial investment and long-term running costs. If needed, the system can be upgraded with helpful extras – like a windowed cover, a dirt collection bin, spray bars or a brushing system – depending on the application.
