Rotary Drum Filter

Rotary Drum Filter

What is a rotary drum filter?

The rotary drum filter is a mechanical filtration system that removes suspended or floating solids from water and process fluids. Water flows through a slowly rotating drum fitted with fine wedge wire screens. Solids stick to the outside and are continuously scraped off by a fixed scraper as the drum rotates.

This simple yet effective design runs fully automatically and is suitable for continuous use. The system is constructed in stainless steel and equipped with an internal spray bar (4–6 bar pressure) to prevent clogging and keep the slots clean during operation. Standard slot sizes range from 0.25 mm to 4 mm.

Applications of the rotary drum filter

The RDF filter is designed for high dirt loads, heavy-duty processes and continuous operation. It is widely used in:

  • Wastewater and process water treatment
  • Sewage treatment
  • Paper and textile production
  • Plastic and chemical processing
  • Meat and vegetable processing
  • Animal waste and pet food handling

Depending on the model, flow capacities range from 25 m³/h to 1770 m³/h. Higher dirt loads are possible upon request, although this may reduce throughput.

Why choose a rotary drum filter?

This type of filter combines high performance with low operating costs. It requires no complex controls and has very few moving parts. The standard design is based on suspended solids up to 200 mg/l. It’s ideal for systems that require reliable filtration without the hassle of frequent maintenance.

Benefits include:

  • Low investment
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Low energy use
  • High capacity and dirt load tolerance
