Self-Cleaning Combined Water Filtration Systems

Combined self-cleaning water filtration systems bring together multiple filtration stages or techniques in a single integrated machine. They are developed for processes where standard single self-cleaning filtration is insufficient — usually because high demands are placed on the filtered water while the filtration process must remain manageable with continuous, uninterrupted operation under varying process conditions.

Dutch Flow Control offers standardised self-cleaning combined water filtration systems as well as custom-built systems.

Self-Cleaning Combined Water Filtration Systems

The SCF and HL-SCF filters only have a built-in static non-self-cleaning coarse filter. When the SCF or HL-SCF filter is used in an outdoor installation with surface water and is not part of a closed system, a self-cleaning coarse filter becomes necessary. In this application, a self-cleaning ACF filter is combined with a self-cleaning (HL-)SCF filter.

If finer filtration is then required without a sand filter or reverse osmosis RO filter being necessary, the MFF filter is added, creating the combination ACF + (HL-)SCF + MFF.

Application examples of self-cleaning combined filtration systems are:

  • Industrial filter system at 50 micron with multiple self-cleaning filter systems
  • Industrial filter systems at 3 micron with multiple self-cleaning filter systems
  • Mobile drinking water filtration machine
  • Mobile wastewater treatment machine (mobile WWTP)
  • Replacement of underperforming sand filters
  • More cost-effective alternative to sand filters in terms of installation costs and operational costs
  • Turnkey filter systems in shipping containers at 50 micron or 3 micron
  • Mobile desalination machine

Single or Combined — What Suits Your Situation?

The choice between a single and a combined self-cleaning water filtration system depends on the nature and concentration of the contaminants, the required filtration range and the demands on process continuity. Combined systems are particularly appropriate when:

  • The contamination load is so high that a single filter quickly becomes saturated or blocked
  • Both coarse and fine filtration in a single process pass is necessary
  • Fine particles such as bacteria, cysts or heavy metals need to be removed
  • Continuous operation without process interruption is a firm requirement
